Following a remarkable year for Manchester regeneration, commercial development Soapworks has won the title of Regional Deal of the Year at this year’s MIPIM UK Estates Gazette awards.
The iconic development was recognised for its landmark agreement with broadband provider TalkTalk, which took 106,000 sq ft on a 15-year lease, making it the largest letting of speculative office space in Greater Manchester this year.
The letting was secured by global alternative asset manager The Carlyle Group and its joint venture partners Nikal and Abstract Securities. The deal joined other significant lettings with The Home Office and global engineering firm MWH Global Ltd in 2015, meaning the building is now 90 percent let.
Ben DuBoulay, director at The Carlyle Group, said of the win: “We are thrilled to be capping off an excellent year for Soapworks with recognition of our team’s hard work.
“It’s an exciting time for Manchester investment, and to be filling the largest speculative development outside London with such a high calibre of occupier is testament to the positive attitudes in the market. The success of Soapworks shows how being creative and ambitious with new regeneration plans can revitalise the Manchester landscape.”
